ZAMRUS holds general conference

On 26th April 2017, Zambia-Russia Cultural Graduate Association (ZAMRUS) held a General conference at the embassy of the Russian Federation in Zambia. Some of the items on the agenda were the election of new executive council for the association and adoption of new constitution.

The conference was attended by the Russian ambassador to Zambia Mr Konstantine Kozhanov, Director of Higher education loans and scholarship board Mrs Ireen Chirwa, Director of Russian Center for Science and Culture Mr Nikolay Chupashkin and Zambian Alumna that graduated from various universities in the Russian federation, including graduates from the Soviet era. One such graduate was Dr Nkonga Mwamba, an economist who graduated from Moscow State University in 1987, and is currently Vice-chancellor of Sunningdale University.

In a speech read on her behalf by Mr Nikolay Chupashkin, Minister of higher education, Professor Nkandu Luo, who herself studied Microbiology at Moscow state university in Russia, encouraged the association to continue playing an active role in the development of Zambia by applying their skills.

By mutual agreement, the vote for the adoption of the draft constitution was adjourned to a later date. A new executive committee was elected at the conference with Mrs Christabel Chitolokwe as the new President of ZAMRUS.
